DOODLES
Art from the Heart
THE ART OF DOODLES:
Doodling for me is a tool that makes me keep my mind focused and enables me concentrate on the phone conversation, the concert, the lecture, or just listening to the radio.
I am not consciously thinking of what my hand is drawing. I am always surprised at the resulting scribbles.
Eventually I build up the patterns and juxtapose the figures, thus incorporating them into the design.
This process is a combination of meditative exercise and the analytical intention.
Most people doodle or scribble ,little aware of how they their are revealing innermost self.
I, as an artist, am aware of the value of these unintentional drawings, and am , therefore, able to transform them into an art form.

Book of Verse
Illustrations for the song of songs
Song of Songs
30 choice verses from the many which have
the detailed imagery that describe
love and passion in biblical times
Drawing is my passion; it is a tool to express
my innermost ,almost unconscious thoughts on life and relationships.
I am very intuitive in the process, not worried about making mistakes.
At a later date I make improvements on the sketches and incorporate the necessary figures or objects into the random design.
I do not write to explain the images ,nor do I draw to illustrate the text
Throughout the ages ,the sages have interpreted the songs in various ways,
that I can feel free to add my own view on this universal subject.

Digital Print on Cushions
From Original Pastel Drawings

What I strive to express is actually a fantasy , a state of womanhood in a different reality.
What I paint is that aspect of her femininity…..the soft ,the sensuous ,the romantic.
My fantasy women are …like the characters in a Jane Austin novel, preoccupied only with
the pursuit of leisure.Their environment is one of richness and beauty .Their interests are the
Arts…Music, Dance and Literature.,Their life style somewhat hedonistic maybe even
decadent.
The Faces are archetypal, but not typical , i.e. ,I am not depicting any one character. The
emotional expressions are minimal,so as not to detract attention from the play of colours and
textures, that make up the total ambience.
My women represent that secret inner core of sentiment and feeling ,common to all women.
I find an analogy in the state of women today ,who find themselves worshiping at the
temples of the beauty salons
in order to retain their youth and to mold themselves on to
an image of Barby-like looks, and hourglass figures prevalent in the Magazines.
Leisure may have taken on a different tact but women still seek fashion and beauty wherever
they live
,according to the dictates of society and the beauty industry.
So ,what I aim for cannot be achieved by painting alla prima ;the depth of the underlying
surfaces is what enriches
even simple subjects ,and enhances the ‘antique’ look and accentuates that most elusive
feminine quality;
her indefinable mysteriousness.

Review from Art Expo magazine
S.Francis
-
Love of the human form, especially the female form is apparent through gesture and attitude ,portraying a multiplicity of emotional representation.
-
Born in Ireland and presently residing in Israel.
-
Has been widely exhibited in Europe and in the USA.
-
”The artists studies of life and ambience long gone are filled with gentle passion and sensuality.
-
Through intricate details and rich lustrous, yet somehow muted colours , each canvas conveys a personal imagination that suffuses everything it beholds”
-
Her vision is colored by her immersion in the past and by her European education
-
The expressive colourism in her canvasses emit feelings of warmth, nostalgia and quiet charm, while portraying a contemporary look.
-
HER subjects are almost always women — beautiful, graceful, taciturn and melancholy; they reflect love, mystery and solitude.
